Finger "Spears"

The designs on the back of fingers vary in shape between islands, as do the meanings and names of the tattoos. I used the English “Finger Spears” since this better matches the translations of these original names than the common “Bamboo Leaf” or “Arrow.” Many stories also use the phrase of “arrow” (particularly out of Uchinaa), in describing the meaning of this component of Hajichi.

Wrist "Round Star" -- Uchinaa Names

From surveys of tattoo wearers in Uchinaa (Okinawa Island only), the designs on the left wrist, a round circle in shape. "Round Star" is the most common name this tattoo was given. It was one of the last tattoos received.
